How it Works
Metal
framework and panels on the exterior of
buildings are easy to clean and pristine
in appearance when new. The metal
becomes increasingly difficult to clean
and keep clean with exposure to natural
weathering and chemical attack that
degrade the surface. The surface becomes
increasingly tarnished, discoloured and
stained, making the metal appear
lifeless.
Natural
weathering is the result of sun, rain,
frost and atmospheric pollution.
Chemical attack can be caused by many
substances, both acidic and alkaline.
The greatest threats to metals – bare
and coated – include ultraviolet (UV)
radiation, acid rain, seawater spray,
cleaning materials and run-off from
mineral surfaces such as concrete and
brickwork.
